What a periodontist treats.
Periodontal disease is an infection of the gum and the bones around your teeth, and it is the most common reason for tooth loss worldwide. Part of the reason is that it is usually silent, so people are often unaware of it until teeth begin to loosen. Treatment can range from simple oral hygiene tips to LANAP to pocket reduction surgery.
Periodontal treatment
Advanced periodontal treatment
Periodontal disease can lead to bleeding, pain, sensitivity, bone destruction and eventual tooth loss. A periodontist can evaluate and determine the extent of the disease, then treat it to make your mouth healthier and help preserve your teeth.
LANAP laser treatment
The LANAP treatment uses the body's own natural ability to heal itself. Performed without a scalpel and sutures, it creates an environment for regeneration of the gum, bone, cementum and ligament lost to periodontal disease.
Gum grafting
Surgical procedures that cover an exposed root surface, thicken the remaining gum so recession does not progress, or both. The benefits include reduced sensitivity, less root visible and improved gum health.
Guided tissue regeneration
When bone and tissue around a tooth or implant have been lost to excessive force or aggressive bacteria, this procedure attempts to regenerate what has been lost.
Crown lengthening
Reshaping bone and gum tissue to expose more of the natural tooth. If a tooth is decayed, broken below the gum line or has too little structure for a restoration, crown lengthening is done first so it can be restored.
Esthetic crown lengthening
Extra gum tissue can make teeth look unnaturally short, which is often called a gummy smile. Removing the excess tissue restores a balanced, healthy looking smile, sometimes alongside lip repositioning.
Implants and surgery
Dental implants
An implant is an artificial root of titanium metal, placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a natural tooth. A replacement crown and post are then attached to it. Implants can replace single or multiple missing teeth and can stabilise dentures.
Teeth in a Day
A new set of upper or lower teeth in a single appointment: any remaining teeth are removed, four to eight implants are placed, and a new fixed set of teeth is attached to them the same day. It usually takes the better part of a morning.
Bone grafting
Sometimes the remaining bone has shrunk or never developed normally, so an implant needs bone built up first. Grafts range from a small socket graft to an external sinus lift at the back of the top jaw.
Exposure of impacted canines
The upper canine is the most common tooth not to erupt properly. Surgical exposure gives access to the tooth, and a bracket can be placed to help orthodontics bring it into proper alignment.
CT scanning
High resolution, low dose 3D x-rays help us determine the best position for an implant, assess bone volume before grafting, look at tissue for possible pathology and investigate painful teeth.
Sedation
Intravenous conscious sedation provides a deep state of relaxation, and most patients report little or no memory of treatment. For milder anxiety we offer oral conscious sedation, taken shortly before your visit.

Remarkable service from secretary, Dr.'s assistants, to the Dr. himself. It felt as if you were a special patient from the moment you entered the office to the point of exiting. Cleanliness impeccable. Very accommodating to my special needs.
Dr. Flemming has completed one implant, a gum graft and I'm in the process of having another implant. This is very professional, knowledgeable team. I'm completely satisfied with their treatments I've received.
My dentist recently referred me to KW Periodontics and Dental Implants for a consultation, evaluation and treatment plan. I was greeted warmly and then filled out the patient information forms prepared for me. Dr. Nicolucci and his assistant soon had me in the treatment room to get started.
Everyone is extremely friendly and efficient.
